Humble beginnings in 1953
Jean-Marie Tremblay founded a company specializing in ornamental iron fabrication in 1953. The company, then known as Group Tremblay Welding, began in a 450-square-foot shop.
As client needs evolved, the company expanded its expertise, facilities and the nature of its work.

Founding
The ornamental iron fabrication shop opens.

Relocation
The company moves to Salaberry-de-Valleyfield into a shop five times larger than the first.

Cathode plates
That year marked the start of cathode-plate production and exports to the United States, South America and Europe. That expertise is now carried by Placatech, which also repairs and recycles aluminum cathodes by friction stir welding.

Move to Saint-Anicet
The company relocates to Saint-Anicet.

Family succession
Restructuring, with Pierre Tremblay succeeding Jean-Marie Tremblay.

Expansion
The facilities quadrupled over ten years. That year also brought a Banque Nationale SME bronze medal and ISO 9002:94 accreditation.

Ownership evolution
The company begins a share-ownership process and welcomes a new management team.
From the shop to an integrated model
The company’s evolution was about more than expansion. Engineering and detailing, erection, maintenance, custom scaffolding and building cladding developed around fabrication.
Those areas of expertise now sit within GTI, Soudure JM Tremblay, ISTA, K2, GT-R and Placatech. On structural steel projects, they can contribute to a coordinated scope from engineering through the field.
