Define the structure and responsibilities
Describe the type of structure, intended use, available documents and responsible professionals. State whether the requirement involves connection engineering, detailing, fabrication, erection or a combination to be assessed.
Avoid using a generic term such as “bridge” to group structures with very different requirements. Characteristics and responsibilities need to be set out in the project documents.
Coordinate drawings and interfaces
Documents need to reflect geometry, connections, supports, interfaces with adjacent work and requirements established by the responsible project parties. Openings, guards, walking surfaces or other elements belong in scope only when explicitly assigned.
Revisions, comments and reviews need a controlled path before fabrication.
Prepare fabrication
Shop preparation depends on applicable drawings, materials and contractual requirements. Assembly size, identification and interface points may also affect transportation and installation.

Anticipate transportation, access and erection
Location, access, available space, interfaces and sequence affect preparation. Describe known conditions and coordination responsibilities without prescribing a lifting or installation method.
Field decisions need to be based on actual conditions and approved work plans.
